Online Gambling In Hawaii
Since the change to the Wire Act that the U.S. Department of Justice made just before 2012, many states have been working on bringing online gambling to their state, trying to offer intrastate online gambling first.
Interestingly enough, there are only two states that have not jumped on this bandwagon, because they do not want online gambling. Utah and Hawaii. Well, that was the case, until recently. Utah has proposed a bill to ban online gambling in the state, in the event that the federal ban on online gambling is lifted.
Now, Hawaii has also done the same, though it seems not everyone is in agreement.
John Kindt is against gambling, and has voiced his opinion about it, even taking it as far as the capital. According to the Honolulu’s police and mayor, Kindt said at the State Capital Rotunda that he wants online gambling legalization kept out of Hawaii. Sounds familiar? Like Utah perhaps?
Kindt has stated his opinion for many, saying “Gambling is a lose-lose in particular for Hawaii because it’s an island economy. There’s nowhere for the gambling to go except internally in raiding the public coffers and raiding the local populace.”
Of course, this is not the only opinion on what online gambling could do to Hawaii. Senator Malama Solomon has championed the benefits of having some gambling, such as the millions in revenue that could be used to help programs in Hawaii, as well as the new jobs that would be created.
Maybe Hawaii will join the rest of the states and get online gambling going in their state, but it will be a battle.
