Gambling Expansion Plans Up In The Air
Plans to expand gambling in South Florida have created a divide between the House and Senate. That means the odds of a unanimous decision are starting to look unlikely as the lawmakers move in totally different directions.
In order to win votes, state representatives have made changes to their constitutional amendments. It just gets more confusing as these changes are being made in order to gain extra votes. One such state representative is Representative Erik Fresen. Fresen released a rewritten 146 page version of his casino bill. He commented on the changes that he believed were crucial, and said “The upgrades were all for the most part driven by me based on conversations with the different committee members,” he added on “But the basic core of the bill is still there.”
Another change to a bill happened with Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff. She attempted to make changes to her bill to gain some popularity.
Despite the changes, both lawmakers did say that if it was necessary to make changes to accommodate their respective chambers’, then they would try to compromise.
The gambling industry has continually grown over the past few years, and with states very likely soon to offer legalized online gambling, gambling expansion seems like the inevitable.
