District Of Columbia Pulls Out Of Race
It looks like the District of Columbia is giving up its plans to become the first state in the United States to offer legal online gambling. This however does not mean they are giving up altogether!
Yesterday, the DC Council’s Committee on Finance and Revenue voted 3-2 in favor of repealing the District’s online gambling legislation. This repeal bill will be heading to the full Council for a vote as early as next Tuesday. It is expected that the bill will pass, as nine of the members have expressed that would vote to repeal or leaning towards it.
The reason being as to why Council members voted the way they did yesterday was because of two major reasons: the way online gambling legislation was passed in the first place, and how Introlot managed to win the right to provide their services to iGamingDC.
The online gambling industry went through a lot in 2011, and even though it’s only been a little over a month since the start of 2012, things have progressed in the fight for online gambling legalization. Already many states are preparing for intrastate online gambling and poker, and it seems like it may only be a matter of time before the federal ban on online gambling is lifted.
