Anti-Gambling Bill Hits Delay In Utah

Attempts by Representative Stephen Sandstrom to pass a bill that would not allow online gambling in the state has been halted by lawmakers because of the potential costs. Known as House Bill 108, the House Law Enforcement Committee has brought it to a standstill because they have reservations on how much it would cost the ISPs in the state.

According to Sandstorm, this is a necessary evil, and he stated “There is a lot more at risk to the state than the potential cost. To me I think it really, quite frankly, doesn’t matter, ’cause it will cost the state tens of millions of dollars if they do not go with this.”

Utah is one state that strongly opposes online poker. House Bill 108, which is Sandstrom’s bill would see to it that online gambling not be legalized in the state, even if the federal ban on online gambling is lifted.

It’s a different game altogether for many other states when it comes to online gambling. Since online gambling is now allowed in the states, many states have been working hard towards being the first state to offer intrastate online gambling. The difference between many states and Utah is night and day. Hawaii is another that is seems to be heading towards banning online gambling as well, but there have been discussions and they are considering it.
