An Introduction to Casino War
Casino War is a very easy game to learn and it’s great for everyone from beginners to advanced players looking for some fast-paced fun. There aren’t too many rules to the game and there isn’t really any strategy to play either because it’s a game of chance where you play against the dealer.
Playing Casino War
The game of Casino War is most often played using 6 decks of cards which have the same ranking as in poker (please see our Poker Guide for details). The only difference to this rule is that aces are always considered the highest card. The goal of the game is to simply beat the dealers card with yours and all the player needs to do is decide how much money to bet (which the dealer matches). Each is dealt one card and high card wins. Easy enough right!
In Casino War you can also have a tie but in this game the tie is what makes the game so exciting! Instead of pushing like other casino games (which means the player simply receives her bet back) the dealer and player now go to ‘war’ against each other. The player is now required to double their original bet and most often the dealer is required to do the same.
Once bets have been laid the war begins! The dealer burns three cards (taking three cards from top of the deck and placing them face down, these cards will not be played) and then turns over one card for the players. Dealer repeats this and gives a card to himself – high card wins. If there is still a tie the player wins and even might gets an additional bonus depending on casino rules.
CASINO WAR STRATEGY
Casino War is a game of chance, so learning it is very simple. With straightforward rules, the game requires very little skill, but there are some strategies that you can utilize to help you win at this popular casino game. These strategies will not only help you learn to play the game faster; they will also prevent you from making common mistakes.
First, players must understand the odds. In Casino War, the player and the house have fairly even odds after the first card is dealt, so it is common for gamblers to think that this stays the same in the event of a tie. However, the house edge actually increases in this situation. The number of decks also effects the players odds negatively with each extra deck that is added.
Now, it’s on to the two essential strategies: Never surrender and never bet on a tie.
Do not surrender if you and the dealer are dealt the same card. Although it is a high-risk strategy to continue playing, the odds are still in your favour. When you surrender, you are giving your money to the house, so it is better to risk this bet (wherein lies only a 2.33% house edge) than just handing your money over to the house with a 3.7% edge.
Betting on a tie is not only risky; it doesn’t exactly pay well. These bets usually only pay out 10 to 1, so it doesn’t necessarily seem like it’s worth the risk. And, don’t count on side bets in this situation. They may add some excitement, but they may not be a lucrative option.
Another strategy that experienced gamers utilize is watching the Aces that come up. If you keep an eye out for all of the high cards that are playing, you’ll get a good idea of how many are left in the deck to know how good your chance of winning is.
The last thing a Casino War player should watch is their stack. Players should make sure they have enough money to go to war. It is a common situation for a player to end up in a tie only to discover that their stack is gone. It’s easy to get carried away, so players should always remember to keep track of their money.
